Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Manager

Work. The Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for leading, developing and mentoring a dedicated team of electrical and mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance as well as planning and allocating resources. This is a key role in the Engineering Services leadership team and is responsible for providing expert technical advice as the principal electrical engineering subject matter expert (SME) across Sunwater’s full portfolio of operations, projects and mega-projects.

As the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Manager at Sunwater, you will:

  • Lead change control processes to ensure engineering governance and compliance for electrical and mechanical engineering and interfaces across all technical disciplines as a member of the Engineering Leadership Team.
  • Provide expert planning advice for maintenance and renewal of existing assets, or development of new infrastructure, including feasibility studies and business cases, preliminary design, technical assessments, detailed design and dam safety risk evaluations throughout the asset lifecycle.
  • Develop, review and maintain technical electrical and mechanical engineering standards, ensuring consistent application across the whole of Sunwater.
  • Oversee and approve electrical and mechanical engineering designs, reports and approval workflows, ensuring quality, safety, serviceability, and RPEQ certification.
  • Produce and/or supervise electrical calculations, power system studies, protection reports and arc flash risk analysis per Sunwater and customer requirements, utilising industry standard modelling programs

We are seeking a highly talented individual with a 10+ years’ experience in an Electrical Engineering leadership position in a similar organisation. Demonstrated experience in leading major electrical asset renewals programs, including risk assessment, design and replacement of HV and LV switchboards, registration as an RPEQ under the Professional Engineers Act 2002 (QLD)

You will also bring:

  • Ability to drive cross-functional and cross-business collaboration to align design outcomes with Sunwater’s engineering standards, safety in design, operational needs, dam safety, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Well-developed commercial acumen and business skills that support the use of engineering knowledge in the workplace and community.
  • Excellent communication skills with a knack for leading the formulation of engineering concepts and design throughout all project phases and present these to Portfolio, Executive and Board committees
