Join Sunwater as a Water Resources Engineer where you’ll play a vital role in providing support for the automated systems that bring hydrological and hydraulic modelling to near-real time with a focus on customers (water delivery) and downstream communities (flood and drought impacts). This role will develop capability around the automation of water delivery and hydrological modelling whilst bolstering and supporting the current operational team during severe weather events. The role will require being on the On-Call roster for Operation Centre events (typically flooding).
As a Water Resources Engineer in the Operation Hydrology Team at Sunwater, you will:
- Providing support on technical assessments, standards and strategies and be part of a team developing the systems to automate hydrological modelling for improved and efficient water delivery
- Will assist in developing, testing and roll out of the systems to monitor, report, deliver hydrological/hydraulic information
- Assist the organisation in optimised water delivery, flood forecasting and drought management tools.
We’re looking for a water engineering professional with at least 3 years’ experience and strong coding capability, particularly for hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and flow management. You will have tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related technical field, and ideally experience in flood forecasting, data and QA processes, spatial platforms (QGIS/ArcMap), dashboard development, and scripting to support tasks such as reviewing gridded rainfall datasets. You will also bring:
- Modelling expertise: Experience in flood modelling using software such as Delft 3D, HEC-RAS, SWMM, TUFLOW and URBs (or similar packages).
- Coding expertise: Experience in Delft FEWS config, Python, working with grid files and times series data, data management, version control (Tortoise SVN /GitHub for example) understanding of basic ICT principles (remoting onto servers etc).
- Communication skills: Developed interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve organisational objectives.
