Civil Engineer

Work. As a Civil Engineer at Sunwater, you’ll be part of our Dam Safety team, helping ensure the safe, compliant and sustainable operation of critical water infrastructure across Queensland, through rigorous compliance, surveillance and instrumentation best practices. You’ll apply your engineering expertise across design, inspections and field activities, contributing to projects that protect communities and support long‑term asset performance.

This role offers a great balance of technical depth, site exposure and collaboration. You’ll work with a reasonable degree of independence while receiving guidance on more complex matters, and you’ll have opportunities to share your knowledge with technicians, operators and project teams.

As a Civil Engineer in the Dam Safety team at Sunwater, you will:

  • Support the delivery of safe engineering design, planning and inspection services for dam safety upgrades, refurbishment works and bulk water infrastructure projects.
  • Carry out dam safety surveillance reviews, inspections and reporting under guidance from a Senior Engineer.
  • Provide input into engineering designs to ensure they are high‑quality, economically sound, safe and fit for purpose.
  • Contribute practical technical solutions and design efficiencies, participating in project meetings to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Undertake field work to verify quality, ensure compliance with requirements and complete technical assurance activities.
  • Interpret and apply industry codes, standards, technical guidelines and Sunwater’s design management system when preparing design documentation.
  • Support and progress projects from scope development and option analysis through to completion.
  • Assist with developing scopes of work and contracts for sub‑contractors and review variations with informed recommendations.

About you:
You’ll bring solid technical capability, a collaborative mindset and a practical approach to problem‑solving. You’ll have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Typically, 5+ years’ experience in a similar engineering role.
  • Confidence working across both office‑based design and on‑site field activities.
  • A willingness to learn, ask questions and contribute positively to team outcomes.

This is a 2-year fixed term opportunity and offers an array of attractive benefits including a competitive starting salary of $129,897 plus 12.75% superannuation, access to banked time and TOIL, 17.5% leave loading and a genuine emphasis on work/life balance.
