Work. Lead Cyber Security for Queensland’s Critical Water Infrastructure.  Sunwater is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Information Security to lead and evolve our cyber security capability across both Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) environments. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in protecting critical infrastructure that delivers essential water services to communities across Queensland.

As a key technology leader, you will shape and execute Sunwater’s cyber security strategy, strengthen our security posture, and ensure compliance with an evolving regulatory landscape. Working closely with Executive Leadership, Operational Technology teams, and key governance committees, you will provide trusted advice on cyber risk, champion a strong security culture, and drive initiatives that enhance organisational resilience.

At Sunwater, you'll be part of a purpose-driven organisation committed to sustainability, innovation and operational excellence. This role offers the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide decisions and make a meaningful contribution to safeguarding one of Queensland’s most important public assets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute Sunwater's cyber security strategy, roadmap and governance framework.
  • Provide strategic leadership and trusted advice on cyber risk, security governance and emerging threats, while fostering a strong security culture through awareness, education and stakeholder engagement.
  • Lead cyber security across Operational Technology and critical infrastructure environments, ensuring alignment with IEC 62443, ASD OT Security Principles and SOCI/CIRMP obligations in partnership with Operations and Operational Technology teams.
  • Own and continuously improve Sunwater's Information Security Management System (ISMS), ensuring policies, standards and controls remain aligned to ISO 27001, IS18, Essential Eight.
  • Provide security oversight and secure-by-design assurance for technology, digital, OT and business transformation initiatives.
  • Oversee security operations, threat monitoring, vulnerability management, identity and access management, incident response, digital forensics and eDiscovery activities.
  • Manage cyber security risk, assurance and compliance activities including control effectiveness reviews, penetration testing, audits and third-party risk management.
  • Sponsor security uplift initiatives and manage strategic partners to ensure delivery outcomes, service quality, value for money and alignment to security objectives.
  • Represent Sunwater with government, regulatory and industry bodies and provide clear reporting and assurance to the Executive Leadership Team, Security Management Committee and Board Audit & Risk Committee.

Our ideal candidate will have significant experience leading enterprise cyber security functions, supported by a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field. You will bring a minimum of five years’ experience in a senior ICT management role, leading cyber security within the utilities, construction, resources or similarly infrastructure-intensive sectors.

You will also hold relevant industry certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) or equivalent credentials. Success in this role will be underpinned by your strategic mindset, leadership capability, strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to communicate complex security risks and opportunities to both technical and executive audiences.

Based in our Fortitude Valley office, this full-time role is available for immediate start and offers an attractive salary package plus 12.75% superannuation.
